This is a great company to do business with. My purchase arrived quickly and was exactly what I ordered. The Aquabound Flaire is the best value in the marketplace. Happy paddling.

"I contacted Tuckerman Outfitters after receiving a product with a manufacturing defect. The next day (Saturday) I heard from Brian who first made sure I was using the product correctly and then acted on my behalf to secure a replacement from the manufacturer. Brian kept me well informed regarding his progress and made sure that I was satisfied with the result of our interaction. I couldn't be happier."

Matthew in Oregon

[After Tuckerman Outfitters shipped overnight at no extra charge to help out a good customer and fellow outdoorsman] Ten minutes ago, as we were leaving for the lake, the UPS fellow showed up with the Airhead pump. You made my sons' day. Thanks for the x-tra effort.

What to Look For In Boots and Gaiters

What to Look For In Boots and Gaiters

If you want to make the most of your outdoor adventures, you want to pay close attention to the type of footwear you need, including your boots and gaiters.

Ideally, you want to choose a good, quality pair of hiking boots, even if you don’t plan on doing any significant hiking. Being outdoors, you will experience all types of terrain, and by having the proper hiking boots, you protect your feet to the fullest.

There are many things to keep in mind when buying your hiking boots. Ultimately, you should not put quality above price. You will spend long amounts of time on your feet when you are outdoors, and your boots will serve many different purposes.

Proper fit is paramount, as is deciding what type of socks you are going to wear during your outdoor adventures. Find your socks and wear them when choosing your hiking boots, so you will know how they are going to fit. There is nothing worse than starting an exciting hiking trip, only to have your feet become sore because your hiking boots don’t fit.

The next thing you want to determine is what season you are going to be doing your outdoor adventures in. Ideally, choosing all season hiking boots will afford you the opportunity to be able to enjoy the outdoors in any weather.

Pay close attention to the liner of the boots you are choosing. You may want to decide whether you need a water proof liner or not, but generally, you want the boots you are purchasing to keep your feet dry. Once your feet get wet, it will spoil the entirety of your hiking adventure.

Also, it’s a good idea to try on both boots when you are shopping, as most of our feet are not exactly the same size. One may be a little more snug than the other, and if this is the case, you may want to go at least half a size bigger or if necessary, wear a thicker type sock to compensate.

During the cold months, it is critical that your hiking boots keep your feet warm. If you are buying year-round boots, you can simply wear a lighter sock with your boots when it’s warmer outside. If you are going to be using your boots during the winter months, you want to make sure they are high enough and have a secure closing around the top to prevent snow from leaking in.

When choosing your hiking boots, you need to determine what type of outdoor activities you’re going to be involved in, and make sure the boots you choose are going to be able to meet all of your needs accordingly.

When you are choosing your gaiters, you want to be sure they are a good fit, as well, and they are not too heavy. Ideally, going with an all-purpose mid-weight gaiter is your best bet. You want them to not only be fully waterproof but breathable, as well. Investing in good quality gaiters is well worth the money; by doing so, you will get many years of wear out of them.
